Frequently asked questions
If you are concerned that your baby is tongue tied, we are the right practice for you. We do a very thorough, detailed oral assessment and make appropriate referrals & recommendations. We take a serious, comprehensive team approach to helping babies optimize their oral function with minimal interventions. When the timing is right, we can refer baby for a frenotomy (procedure) to address their oral tethering.
Unfortunately, tongue tie has received a lot of one-sided negative press recently. We are happy to discuss this issue with you and respect that you are the parents and you get to decide what you are comfortable doing. We will never try to talk you into doing any procedure you are not comfortable with and will explain everything that we are seeing.
With us, you will be given options so you can make the best decision for you and your baby.
You choose where you want your lactation visit to take place: in your home or at one of our offices. Location choice will not change the high quality care we will provide to you and your baby(ies) each and every time we meet.
It depends on your coverage and the mileage from our office.
If you are self-pay, our Home Concierge Fee is built into the cost of the consult.
If you have coverage through Aetna, Wildflower Health or The Lactation Network, there is an $90 home concierge fee.
Additionally, there may be a travel fee if you live beyond 25 miles or 30 minutes from our closest office to your home. We charge extra for home visits because it means time away from the office, we so we end up seeing fewer clients. If you would rather not spend the extra money, we are happy to see you in one of our offices.
For more info please visit the Fees & Insurance Page on our website.
Possibly, depending on long it takes for us to get to you and how far away you live. Extra travel fees apply based on mileage and time. We are happy to figure that out for you.
If you live under 25 miles away from our office AND it takes less than 30 minutes to drive to you, there is no additional travel fee.
If you live less than 25 miles away but it takes 30 minutes to drive to your house: $55
25-35 miles: $55
35-45 miles: $85
Over 55 miles: $200
We work with plenty of exclusive pumpers. We want you to enjoy time with your baby and if latching your baby to your breast isn’t right for you, that’s fine. We are happy to help you figure out how to optimize your milk production, how to use your pump, get you into the correct flange size and help design a personalized pumping routine. We will also go over bottle-feeding and other important feeding-related issues. Book an Initial Consult and we will work on this together.
It depends on your coverage and the mileage from our office.
If you are self-pay, our Home Concierge Fee is built into the cost of the consult.
If you have coverage for the actual visit but still want a home visit, there will be an additional $90 fee for that convenience.
There may be an extra fee for travel time & distance depending on where you live.

Yes!
Aetna: We are in-network with Aetna. Visit our Fees and Insurance page for more information on specifics.
United Health Care: Most of our United Health Care clients get coverage through The Lactation Network (TLN). It might take 24- 48 hrs to hear back from TLN but you can go ahead and still schedule an appointment. We will both be notified of your status, but do let us know that you have applied.
Cigna: If you have Cigna, you will likely get coverage with Wildflower Healthcare. This link will tell you immediately if you are eligible.
Anthem: Unfortunately, Anthem doesn’t allow IBCLCs to be in-network providers but you may be able to get reimbursed for our visits. Click here for more information.
The least expensive option is to come to our office but many prefer to have a home visit. We will always provide a “superbill” (official receipt) so you can send it in to your insurance company either for reimbursement or to go towards your deductible.
More info on self-pay fees here.
You can can use your HSA (Health Savings Account), credit card, check or cash.
If you are seeing us for the first time or are a returning client with a new baby, please chose an “Initial” consult.
If you are pregnant, please chose a prenatal consult. Schedule this type of appointment after 35 weeks of pregnancy if you are having one baby; after 30 weeks if you are carrying multiples. We love private prenatal consults!
If we saw you when you were pregnant and now have had the baby, please schedule an “initial” consult, not a follow-up — we haven’t yet met your new baby!
If you are a new client needing guidance with a baby who won’t take a bottle, please chose an “initial” consult.
It’s impossible to be to predict how many visits you will need. It depends on the complexity of the situation. Most feeding issues require multiple visits however, on average of 3-6 visits. Nothing makes us happier to “graduate” you and your baby once we have gotten you to a better place.
We wish we could boast a 100% success rate, but that would be false advertising. We do promise to be good listeners, take our time, respect your personal feeding goals, not judge your parenting choices and provide you with evidenced-base information to help you make the choices that feel most comfortable to you.
